My prehistoric fiction came in well below 100k (for historical fiction). I’ve also noticed most/all Westerns are closer to 70k words–at least far short of 100k. Maybe they fall into a different genre.

Excellent points, Jacqui. I noticed similar differences, highlighting the challenge of creating infographics that show averages rather than the full spectrum of statistics. (Please don’t get me started on mode vs. mean!) The trends over time are another important aspect, emphasizing principles over rules.

        Mean… median… mode–do I even remember those differences? Do I care?

Being the nerd I am, I started to explain the differences–and then slapped myself. No! I don’t really care!
