Writers Wake Up to AI’s Consequences

Writers Wake Up to AI's Consequences

This brief post comes after a recent eye-opening blog written by a professional author describing the benefits of AI-enhanced research.

  • I won’t name the writer or list the people who supported this person’s position.
  • Their futures come one choice at a time.
  • Instead, I want to help people who don’t understand artificial intelligence.
    • What is AI?
    • What can AI do?
    • What are the consequences of using AI?

What’s needed is a page (not a single post) devoted to fulfilling this three-fold goal.

  1. Explain in lay terms what artificial intelligence is and is not.
  2. Give facts about the harm caused by AI to children and adults.
  3. Make writers aware that your choice to use AI has consequences.

People deserve to know the potential harm caused by their choices.

A series of future posts will help to educate writers who know little about AI.

I’m wide awake as to the consequences of AI, but too many novice and seasoned authors are like hungry birds in a nest, eyes closed to the harm and gobbling down the tasty promises of a utopia of universal knowledge and an increase in research productivity.

Like Eve in the Bible, people crave wisdom—good and evil. That’s not all bad if that wisdom comes with a healthy dose of common sense and discernment. I understand why people want knowledge that’s pleasing to the eye (e.g., AI image generators) and appears to provide immediate wisdom (e.g., AI research answers).

However, consider the consequences of Eve’s choice and how it worked out for Adam.

Note: I closed the comments for this post, but will open up for your thoughts once I complete the educational page. To break down without dumbing down this important topic takes a lot of work, so patience, please.
