I hadn’t planned to post today, and a message of writing encouragement wasn’t on my to-do list. Does this message resonate with you, too?

My plan was to write more scenes for my current work in progress. However, I had to see if there were any important emails that begged for attention. That’s when it happened, another inspirational rabbit trail.

The walk down memory lane exceeded my expectations, and I just had to share.

Writing Encouragement for All Ages

It’s no secret I use Kit to send my emails, and its users are some of the best creators in the world.

One of those creators I came across is an artist who also is a skilled storyteller. His free posts, Danny’s Essays, are inspiring. His post today is for writers who feel they’ve not yet achieved their goals.

For most of us (me included), that can mean months, years, and even decades of work, yet we’re still striving to hit our goals.

Danny’s post was great, and really resonated. I occasionally flip through my old story notes, hastily scrawled and smudged with ballpoint ink, and may even stumble upon an idea I can reuse. “They were me becoming exactly the writer I needed to be.” I hope every new writer starts their journey knowing those words, and every seasoned writer comes across them at some point or another. Mistakes, frustrations, crumpled pages — as disheartening as they are, they’re also invaluable in helping us along the way.

Danny is the umpteenth writer I’ve read or heard about who has filled journals. I’ve journaled before, but not daily for years, nothing like that. I’m starting to think it would be satisfying even if no one else ever reads it.

And yeah, we’re each on our own writing journey, no need to compare ourselves to others.

  I rarely think of the thousands of words I’ve hidden away in journals and digital files. Danny’s post caused me to reflect. Like a foundation, I believe the many hidden words are helping the visible ones exceed readers’ expectations.
